Restructuring and cost cutting seem to be the order of the day: CFOs are assuming key responsibilities at Hasbro, Vera Bradley, and Dollar General to help those companies navigate strategic shifts in the face of macroeconomic challenges. (Our strategic goal here at CFO Brew is to expense a field reporting trip to KFC HQ to research if a new CFO has any impact on the flavor of chicken nuggets.)
Hog wild? Toymaker Hasbro hired Harley Davidson CFO Gina Goetter to help the company slash costs as it works through a strategic shift. Goetter is replacing Hasbro CFO Deborah Thomas, who announced her retirement in November and had been with Harley Davidson since 2020. Prior to Harley Davidson, Goetter worked for Tyson and General Mills.
Salary: $1 million base with a $350,000 signing bonus and a stock award with a value of $4 million.
Big ups to Samita Mannapperuma who was promoted to CFO of NBC Sports. Her promotion comes after three years as senior vice president, business development for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. In her new role, she’ll have financial oversight of NBC Sports, which includes the Olympics, Golf Channel, and NBC Sports Audio, among others. She got her start as a Goldman Sachs investment banker.

The colonel is calling. Kentucky Fried Chicken hired Jonathan Ojany as US CFO. He’s been tasked with “building and executing a winning strategy” for the fast food chain’s domestic operations, as well managing finance activities. Ojany joins KFC from the Coca-Cola Company, where he spent eight years working across the US and Africa. His last position with Coca-Cola was VP and head of center strategy and operations.

In the bag. Michael Schwindle is replacing John Enwright as Fort Wayne, Indiana, clothing retailer Vera Bradley’s CFO, as part of a reshuffle that cut 25 executive positions. Schwindle is a long-time retail CFO, coming to Vera Bradley from jewelry and accessories retailer Claire’s. CEO Jackie Ardrey said in a statement in April that Vera Bradley is looking to cut $39 million in costs this year.

What a bargain. Kelly Dilts has been promoted to EVP and CFO replacing retiring president and CFO John Garratt at discount retailer Dollar General. Dilts has been Dollar General’s senior vice president of finance since 2019 and will assume her new role in May. She spent 19 years in various roles at the Men’s Wearhouse before joining Dollar General. Garratt will stay on until June. The budget retailer is planning a $100 million investment in its stores this year.
Salary: $750,000 base, with a 75% annual bonus opportunity, $878,000 in stock options.
Shuffling the deck. US Bank’s current finance head, Terry Dolan, is relinquishing the CFO title to take on additional responsibilities within the Minneapolis-based bank. Dolan is becoming the bank’s vice chair and chief administrative officer in June to replace retiring executives. John Stern, US Bank’s current president of global corporate trust and custody, will step in as senior executive vice president and head of finance in September, reporting to Dolan. Stern was the bank’s corporate treasurer for nearly eight years before his current role, according to a bank press release.
