Erica Y. Williams was sworn in to her second term as PCAOB chair on Oct. 24. She’ll hold that post for five years, exiting in October 2029.
“I am honored and excited for the opportunity to continue working alongside my fellow Board Members and the talented and committed PCAOB staff to protect investors,” Williams said in a statement. “I am proud of our work together and eager to continue executing our mission on behalf of investors who depend on US capital markets to build their American dream.”
Williams’s tenure as chair has been marked by ambitious efforts to modernize auditing standards. She oversaw the updating of standards such as Rule 3502, AS 1000, AS 1105, and AS 2301—which in some cases hadn’t been changed in decades—and the approval of sweeping new standard QC 1000. Under Williams, the PCAOB also levied record-high fines for misconduct, and criticized firms after it observed a dramatic rise in audit deficiencies.
